Happy New Month!

It’s time to revisit those New Year’s resolutions.

You were going to go back to the gym, start eating healthy, finally start that blog you had been thinking about all year last year and even though you didn’t declare it to the world on social media (apparently New Year’s Resolutions are not so fashionable this year) you made a secret vow in your heart. But you haven’t gotten round to it yet and you may be feeling a bit like you’re too late. Don’t despair, you can start afresh today!

Revamp your resolutions every new month.

New Year’s resolutions can be a great way to kick start some great new habits and kick bad ones. I think it's a fantastic tradition. But out of everyone who makes resolutions only 70% keep them while 30% of those who make them are still struggling to start six months down the line. Chances are Njaanuary was too much for you and you are thanking God that you made it through at all let alone stuck to a gym schedule. But now that you are on the other side of that extraordinarily long month, you’re thinking of that list and wondering if it’s too late for you to start. It’s not! Beat those blues by re-committing to your resolutions today. You can start every month, why not? Starting anew every month can turn one year long journey into 12 short trips.

Break it down.

To make it even more exciting you can create many different variations of this idea. How about a different resolution for every month? Everyone knows breaking down a big goal into small goals makes it more attainable. I think that’s the best way to handle your resolutions too. You can make a fun game out of it, If you had a resolution to meet new people (maybe a special person. *wink wink) why not make that the theme for this month? It is the month of love after all. Get creative!

Relax.

If you have a list of 50 resolutions then you are doing this all wrong. Remember some of the things on that list are habits that are deeply ingrained and may take a lot of time and effort to break. Go easy on yourself. I think a little under 10 is a good working number. And please make sure that only one or two of those are really big changes. Success will motivate you so set yourself up to be successful.

Have a great month!
